Obituary for Jeanne M Petersen

Jeanne M. (nee LaFontaine) Petersen, 95, a longtime Willowick resident, passed away Monday, July 27, 2020. She died alone in the Covid unit at Breckenridge Fairmount Health Care Center in Willoughby, shortly after testing positive for coronavirus.
She was born October 25, 1924, in London, Ontario, Canada.
Jeanne was graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in London, Ontario, Canada, after which she immigrated to Michigan in 1947. She was part of the influx of medical personnel permitted to enter the U.S. when border restrictions were loosened following the end of
World War II. She met her future husband, Bill, while working at Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor. Jeanne was a well-respected RN at Lake West Hospital, and also Fairmount Health Care Center at Breckenridge Village. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary Magdalene Church in Willowick, where she was an active member of the Ladies Guild.
Jeanne is survived by her children, Mary P. Junk, Michael Petersen, Thomas (Karen) Petersen, Ann (Greg) Golden, Patricia (Chuck) Gideon, William Petersen, John (Sherry) Petersen, and Susan (Pete) Connolly; mother-in-law of Teri Petersen; cherished grandmother of Thomas Junk, Katrina (Matt) Brill, Margi (Matt) Swellie, Brian (Jessica) Petersen, Bernadette (Dan) Harvey, Theresa (Jim) Maher, Alexis Petersen, Eric Petersen, Amanda (Chuck) Gerish, Alex Golden, Andrew Golden, Michael Gideon, Emily Gideon, Matthew Petersen, John Petersen, Grace Connolly, Rose Connolly and Peter Connolly; great-grandmother of Ellie and Evan Junk, Daniel Geiser, Sam and Jack Rees, Chloe and Cameron Swellie, Sadie, Colin and Elise Petersen, Dominic and Brogan Harvey, Cecilia and Kilian Maher, Faith Petersen and Connor Overstreet, Elliot and Remi Gerish; sisters-in-law Anne LaFontaine, and Claire Acitelli.
Jeanne was married for 53 years to her beloved husband, William Petersen, who died in 2004. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Petersen; daughters-in-law, Catherine Petersen and Kristi Petersen; grandson, Gray Gideon; parents, Alexandre and Mary (nee Cummings) LaFontaine; siblings, Leo, Roy, and Gerald LaFontaine.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, services will be private. You may view the service 11 a.m. Friday via a Facebook Live stream on the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home Facebook Page. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, when it’s safe to gather again.
Flowers may be sent in care of the funeral home, or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Mary Magdalene Church, 32114 Vine Street, Willowick, OH 44095.
