Obituary for John A Kinnaird

John A. Kinnaird, 96, longtime resident of Willoughby, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020, peacefully with family members by his side.
John was the beloved husband of 75 years to Margaret; proud father of John (Myra) and Sheila (Wayne); and brother to Grant of London, England. The joys of his life were his grandchildren, John, Jack (Mary Beth), Adam, Nichole, Wayne and Stuart; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Robert, Ann Smith, and Muriel Edwards.
John was the oldest son of Arthur and Mary Kinnaird born in Aberdeen Scotland. He served in the British Royal Navy (Merchant Navy) during World War II from 1942 to 1946 as a Portsmouth Engineer. After the war, John and Margaret moved to Cleveland to start a family and a new life in the U.S.
He worked at Clark Controller until 1982, when they closed. He also worked at Lake West Hospital when it first opened in the emergency room assisting with patient care.
John was a member of the Masons Willoughby #302 as a Past Master for over 65 years, where he was also an educational officer. He was a member of The Robertson Fellowcraft. He always made time for his family and found something new to teach them. He was always interested in everything that was happening in their lives and took the time to really listen and engage with them. John had endless patience, was incredibly smart and so pleasant to everyone he met. He loved his garden and going on long walks and all things related to sailing and the sea. John was the type of man who we should all strive to be and will be missed by everyone who's life he touched.
A private service will be held.
Arrangements are entrusted to McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes in Willoughby and Mentor.
