Obituary for Paul Sumner Tyler Jr.

Paul Sumner Tyler Jr. "Buzz", age 79, passed away July 29, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.
Paul was born in 1941, in Euclid, to the late Paul S. and Maude (nee Feree) Tyler.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara (nee Petty) Tyler; six children, Michael (Angela), Thomas (Misty Brewer), Steven (Melissa Zaller), Laura, Kathryn, and Andrew (Michelle); nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Paul was a 1959 graduate of Euclid High School, where he excelled as a member of the swim team and Choral Masters. He received his BBA from Cleveland State University and an EMBA from Baldwin Wallace University. He joined the BW staff in 1983 as the Bursar responsible for collections, calling himself the “Bad Man on Campus,” a position he held for 26 years until his retirement in 2009. His expertise in finance and education were well established, serving two terms as President of the Ohio Bursar’s Association as well as an instructor for the U.S. Dept. of Education.
Paul was a proud resident of Willoughby for the past 46 years. He served as Vice-Chair of the Willoughby Airport Commission for 10 years and was also a member of the Willoughby Fiscal Review Task Force. His long-time interest in researching his family’s genealogical history led him to serve as a Trustee of the Ohio Genealogical Society, who certified Paul’s grandparents and father into their Century Families of Ohio in May of 2020.
Paul combined his love for genealogy with his love of travel, tracing the Tyler’s family history from Ohio and Massachusetts all the way back to England. He and his wife traveled extensively in the U.S. as well as 22 countries across the globe.
The Tyler family would like to extend a thank you to all who cared for Paul during his illness, particularly to the skilled caretakers at Hospice of the Western Reserve and our care team of Cindy, Kristine, and Darcia. “We recommend and encourage donations there in Paul’s name.”
A Celebration of Life will not be held until safely possible for family and friends. Interment will take place in Willoughby Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are entrusted to McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes in Willoughby and Mentor.
